Mario Attard
Based in Madrid, sculptor Mario Attard creates original pieces made of ceramics, glazed with amazing colors that remind us of nature. A multi-technique artist, his career spans the visual arts, film and theatre across decades, taking him all over the world. Born in Valletta, Malta, he received his Bachelor of Arts from the prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Arts in Amsterdam and a further scholarship to the Rhode Island School of Design for specific work in glass and ceramics.
"I am endlessly fascinated with the diversity and plasticity found in clay. My work is inspired many times by nature, the materials and textures found in it, and the erosion process. Ceramics has always an element of surprise, every time you open the kiln to find a piece completely transformed from its previous stage."
